RPM = speed in MPH * gear ratio * R&P ratio * 336 / tire diameter in inches. To determine the RPM at which you would be running at a given gear and speed, use the following equation: Assuming your tire size to be close to stock (195/65-15 or 205/55-16 or 225/45-17), the rolling diameter is about 24.4 inches. However, if you want to figure it out yourself, I'll give you the tools to do it. Replacing a 4th-gear set or R&P requires taking apart the transmission, not worth the expense and effort for a possible few tenths of a second at the quarter miles AT BEST by itself.
MK4 O2J 2.0 MOD
One cannot say that another gear ratio is better, and I for one consider this to be the absolute last mod that should be undertaken.
MK4 O2J 2.0 MANUAL
BE CAREFUL and make sure you have some sort of shop manual that details the correct procedures.Ī lot depends on the state of your mods and the shape of you torque curve. Furthest I've been inside a VW transmission myself was the 5th gear swap, but I've seen others have them apart, and besides all the fiddly synchro bits, the internal shift linkage looks like a real pain in the tail. There's plenty of opportunity to get it wrong. I've mostly dealt with motorcycle gearboxes, which don't have synchromesh, but they still have lots of fiddly bearings, thrust washers, bushings, pins, and spacers inside them. There are A LOT of situations where you can put things together several different ways, one of which is correct and all others will cause a failure of some sort. There are A LOT of fiddly little bits inside. and don't exclude the possibility of having to learn some things the hard way. If you've not had a gearbox apart before, you are in for a LOT of learning real fast. Same situation with most everything else. Starters are different depending on the engine but they bolt to holes in the transmission case that are in the same place. But, you can take a transmission that originally had a 3.89 final drive apart, substitute ALL the equivalent parts that correspond to a 3.16 final drive, and put it together in the same cases. For example, the input shaft gear and output shaft gear of a given gear set have to match, and the output shaft has to match the final drive because the pinion is part of the output shaft. Obviously certain parts need to operate together.
i did post this in the non-tdi upgrades but wasn't getting any responses, if a mod is going to delete one of threads please delete the other one in the non-tdi upgrades, thanks again So basically, is the R&P from the tdi going to be a straight swap with a 1.8T tranny or am i gonna have to take the speedo gear out of the tdi tranny and swap it as well? also the fifth gear should fit from my tdi tranny into the 1.8T tranny right? i realize the final drive ratio is different, so can i take the R&P out of my tdi tranny, along with the fifth gear, and swap it into the the 1.8T/2.0 tranny that i'm getting? i'm also gettting a peloquin LSD so the R&P is coming out to begin with, but my other question is whether i'm going to have to change the speedo gear in the 1.8T/2.0 tranny or if they are the same gear as the 3.389 final drive ratio? Special order, please allow 2 business days before shipment.Hey my tranny is done, and i'm looking at getting a 1.8T or 2.0 O2J because i like the gear ratios in the first 4 gears, since i do a little 1/4 mile racing. We recommend a shift tower repair kit, 2L of gear oil, and a tube of Dirko to go with the kit. If you need a new reverse gear you can find it here. *Alternate: Output shaft bearing next to 5th gear 02D311206B – sometimes pop rivets come loose and you need to replace the entire partĢx 113517185C / LM300849-811 Differential Carrier Bearingsġx 02A141180A Release Bearing Guide Tube w/ Main Shaft Seal 085311113ġx Upper Case Needle Bearing 02A311523B (‘93-07)Ģx 3rd & 4th Gear Clips/Spring 088311311D Note that if you have a 2000 you may have an early or a late transmission, the only difference in the kits is the 1st and 2nd syncro.Ģx 02J311247F/02J311247D 1st/2nd syncro (Outer) LATE 02Jġx 02A311123E Rear large Input shaft bearingġx 085311123N Front small Input shaft bearingġx 311405625B / 518772A Small Pinion Bearing (tapered)ġx 003519185A / LM29749/710 Large Pinion Bearing (tapered)
